Travel to Cork
Scotland has been grand, but now time to meet up with Deb and Joe in Cork, Ireland.
Up at 5:00 am, and Uber picked us up at 6:00 am. Dropped us at Glasgow Airport. It was a few minutes before we knew what gate to go to to check in. The line for security was long but moved quickly. Both of my bags were flagged: one for the Heather honey which I could not keep, and the liquids in my toiletry bag which had not been flagged before.
We continued and our senses were assaulted by the perfumes in the duty free shopping area. After walking through that maze, we found a Starbucks for breakfast. Granola, pan au chocolate and a pumpkin hot chocolate.
Our flight was supposed to leave at 8:35, but now it is departing at 9:05. We are still waiting for our departure gate.
Our flight departed about 9:05 and we landed about 10:15. The line for immigration took about an hour. There were a lot of us. Out the airport and got in the queue for the taxis.
We arrived at Heuston Station before 12:30 pm. I got a ham sandwich and chocolate cookies and Gwyn got a salad. The cookies were ok. Gwyn got a coffee from AMT Coffee so we could also get on the wifi. The blue box is just blinking now. I called their tech support line, and I need to have Ireland added to our plan. Once that happened, the wifi hotpsot worked. I was able to collect the tickets with the Reservation number so we are good.
We walked down the long walk to 7b where our train was waiting. The first car was A, the first class car.
We sat down across from Christine, a defense lawyer from San Francisco. We chatted with her throughout the trip. One thing that I noticed was the lack of stone walls. They used hedges. When we got off a lady mentioned that stone walls were used in Galway. A group of teenagers got on. They did not have first class tickets. The boy was outside, and the girl sat next to Christine and slept. She had a lot of makeup on.
Once we arrived we found the taxi queue. I started to order a taxi with Free Now, but the taxis were arriving.
One took us to The River Lee, a very nice hotel. You have to use the keycard to make the elevator work. Dropped our stuff off, and tried to book a place to eat.
The Spitjack did not have anything until 8:00 pm, so we went exploring to find something. We were walking past it, and stopped at about 5:30 pm. She said as long as we finished by 7:30 pm she could seat us upstairs. All of the tables were separated by plexiglass walls. The food was really good, and the apple rhubarb crumble was yuumy.
We walked around a bit, but the rain had come back, so we decided to head back to the hotel. We both took a bath, and lounged in the bathrobe and slippers. There was a knock at the door for the turn down service. We declined, as we have never stayed at a hotel this fancy.
