Another Day in Glasgow
Back from the Highlands, a day to explore Glasgow.
Woke up at 7:00 am. Went down to breakfast, which was good. I asked the hotel check in person where I could get some packing tape. He said I could get some parcel tape at WH Smith. He checked online, and said that it was open. We headed around the corner to it, but it opened at 10:00. We then decided to take the City Sightseeing Glasgow: Hop-On, Hop-Off Tour. It was a bit rainy, but it was going to clear up as the day went on.
A neat mix of old and new buildings. The tour was an audio tour, so we got the ear plugs and plugged in. They used to have public hangings, and a doctor was hanged for killing his wife and daughter before 80,000 people. We saw the
Doulton Fountain. We almost got off at the Riverside Museum, but stayed on for the entire loop. We got off, and looked for a WH Smith and coffee. We found a Caffè Nero, and had a luxury hot chocolate and a coffee. Next we found the WH Smith.
The cashier showed me where the parcel tape was. I wanted the clear, but they only had the brown. Gwyn was near the magazines, and they had a Peaky Blinders magazine. We made our purchase, and then went to look for a t-shirt for Gwyn who was feeling a bit self conscience with her blouse. Stopped at a TK Max, but then went looking at other stores. Stopped at Macron, and they had a golf sweater that I really liked, but it was not my size. I will look online. Looked at a few more stores, but did not find a t-shirt.
Stopped in the Buchanon Galleries. Some fun shops. Found a couple of nice gifts. We also went to the Gallery of Modern Art. I found it pretty good, but Gwyn did not. Lunch was a Pret A Manger. Saw a girl playing the bagpipes and chatted with her briefly.
We thought about going back to the hotel, but decided we would go to
The Riverside Museum. Back onto the hop on off bus. The sun was now out for a nice ride. This time it was narrated. The young girl next to us finally convinced her father after two years to take the bus. We got off, and walked into the Museum. What a fantastic place! Cars, trains, Trolley cars, buses, prams, bicycles.
Also a tall ship outside. I bought some socks at the gift shop and Gwyn bought a t-shirt. The bus was coming, and we made it for our trip back. We got off at stop 20 which was just a couple of blocks over from our hotel.
We walked down to MacSorley's but as soon as we walked in the band started playing. We walked next to JD Wetherspoon, which is a chain pub. You order from your table since I asked at the bar. We found one by the window and ordered stuffed potatoes.
I had mine with cole slaw and Gwyn had vegetables. She was a bit anxious after our walk down as some of the young people that we passed were drunk. We walked a different way back and walked into Glasgow Central Station. Nice inside, and we realized that we had arrived here from Keswick. Back at the hotel, we got our dirty laundry sorted, and repacked bags since the big one is being shipped back via DHL. Gwyn took a shower to be able to pack her jeans she was wearing. It took a bit, but I got the tracker working to put into the bag. I brought the bag down and left it at the main desk. I also ordered our Uber for the morning.
We watched a couple of different movies (Little Women, Catch me if you can) before going to sleep.
