Hill Top
A visit to see Beatrix Potter's house and Castlerigg Stone Circle.
Woke up and figured out how to work the shower. It is electric, and each room has a unit in the shower. Down to a full English breakfast.
They use a slate placemat, just like The Thyme Bistro did. Our Davies Taxi driver showed up at 9:15 am. Adrienne, who is Spanish. He came to the Keswick area seven years ago to work and learn English. He was only going to stay for three months, but after one month stayed. He met a girl, and they now live here.
The drive out to Hill Top was great. Small winding roads where you need to be always paying attention. It would be fun to drive Serenity, my Mazda Miata, through here!
Hill Top was very nice. You would see a photo from one of Beatrix's books along the grounds, and you would see where she got the inspiration for the drawing. Spoke with a father and daughter in the field while enjoying a hot chocolate from Joey's Café.
Next we entered the house, where the Beatrix Potter museum is housed. Gwyn loved it. THe house was left pretty much like it would have been when Beatrix lived there. There were paintings, miniatures, and many more items. There is a large grandfather clock as you go up the stairs. In the back room there are paintings by her brother.
We next stopped at Castlerigg Stone Circle, kind of like Stonehenge. After that, we were dropped off at Badgers Wood, and Gwyn and I got our
laundry and walked down to Keswick Laundry. A very nice lady helped us. We walked over to Relish for corn and veggie soup and potato chips while we waited for the laundry to finish.
Back to the laundromat. The clothes were washed, so we stayed until they were dried. Since the stores close around 5:00 pm we went back and roamed around. We each got an ice cream at the
Keswick Mini Market. Did not really see anything to grab us, so we headed back to the B&B. Ran into Deb and Joe on the way back. Gwyn wanted to stop in the bookstore Bookends at the end of our street, but it was just books. Back at the B&B we took a nap. Our reservations were for 5:30 pm at Woodstone Pizza and Flamegrill. I enjoyed my pizza, but the Fanta was not orange. Stopped and got some more ice cream at the Keswick Mini Market and ate it on the way back. Sat on the bench in front of Badgers to finish it before going in for the night.
